Isaac was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in his distal right femur in Oct 2021, the same week he turned 12 years old.
He is a sporty boy from young age across various sports including tennis, golf, football and swimming. He loves math, gaming and chess. Isaac has many good friends and a younger brother Lucas he loves very much.
The news of cancer was sudden and devastating for all of us.
We had a good multidisciplinary team and started the MAP treatment which failed as it made his tumor bigger with metastases to the lung.
By December 2021, we were advised by doctors to amputate his right leg above knee in order to save his life.
In January 2022 we started 2nd line chemo treatment also referred to as the OLIE trial (Ifos + Etop + Levantinib). His response to this treatment was stable and we planned bilateral lung thoracotomy in April 2022 to remove as many lung nodules as we can. We still have 19 nodules remaining in the lung which we are controlling with TKI and monitoring scan by scan.
He has just received his first basic prosthetic leg so he is rebuilding his physical strength and relearning how to walk. He is determined to walk back to school by Fall 2022.
During this very difficult time he learned many things:
